Breaking news: Here is an announcement and form to reserve space for NanoDays 2008, scheduled to take place from March 29 through April 6 at the Saint Louis Science Center. Here are announcements for a short-term research training program in dental and craniofacial bioengineering at UM-KC for summer 2007, and a March 30-31 (2007) nanotechnology and the life sciences workshop at WUSM.
As you can see from the abstract book here, the meeting in Columbia offered a remarkable level of diversity and quality in the presentations by speakers outside the region. We also heard first-time presentations from new regional talent at institutions across the state, and welcomed collaborators from companies and Universities not presenting as well. Look for more on the statistics of attendance soon. Nano-alliance members attending the business meeting at the end of the conference also said they'd like to know what you think about the questions listed in these slides.
Here's the web-page for the 2006 (Oct 6-7) nanoalliance meeting at Mizzou. Check out the invitation letter here. The meeting is free of charge! Registration is needed since we need to find out how many people will participate and for lunch and dinner arrangements. The deadline for registration is September 25, 2006.
There will be about 30 invited speakers for the conference. Some of them are listed on the website. Others are being finalized at this time. Also, please encourage your students to submit abstracts for the poster presentation. The submission of the abstract can be done online while registering for the conference. There will be three awards for the best posters. The deadline for the abstract submission is September 15, 2006. We hope to see you at the conference.
A moderated bulletin board for regional nanoalliance participants from universities, industries, and government is being set up for discussion of technical and organizational matters at the google groups link below. If you'd like to check it out but are not already registered, contact your local moderator or request membership through the link below. This internet forum should prove more useful for casual communications than the e-mail listserve, since by default members will only see the posts when they visit the webpage.

Here's the flyer from the May 2006 joint Washington University Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Saint Louis Academy of Science Science Frontiers presentation on nanomedicine, which involved nanoalliance participants from Mizzou, WU Chemistry, and UM-StL.
Breaking news! The third annual Missouri Nanotechnology Alliance meeting will be hosted by Mizzou on 6-7 Oct 2006. Check out the first flyer here.
Here's the splash page and flyer from the 22 Oct WYP05 joint SLAPT/SLSC afternoon in Cyberville on nanoscience in everyday life, put together by nanoalliance members from Monsanto, Danforth Plant Sciences Center, Washington University Mechanical Engineering, and UM-StL Physics.
How do you like Nanotechnology Research Alliance of Missouri (NRAM) as an organization title? What elements would be important in a mission statement for this organization? What kinds of committees should the organization set up, particularly with their impact in mind on the competitiveness of the state's citizens and institutions? If you have opinions about these matters as we work to formalize this growing collection of collaborations, some of which have been going on for decades, let us know. Moreover, if you are up for putting some energy into making this pooling of resources between institutions more effective, stay tuned...
The second annual Missouri Nanotechnology Alliance meeting, on Nanotechnology at the Interface with Life Sciences Research, was hosted by the UM-KC Center for Research of Interfacial Structure and Properties on Nov 11 (Fri) and 12 (Sat), 2005, with support from the Governor's Research Alliance of Missouri. A preliminary summary of the program that materialized may be found here. As they become available, we'll link here pictures and/or summaries from the sessions on [KC Area Life Sciences Institute and Local Businesses], [Nanotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nanoeducation], [Nanotechnology as it Interfaces with Materials Science and Engineering], [Nanotechnology, Nanomedicine and Life Sciences], and [Building and Maintaining Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations].
Check out the notes here on subscribing to a listserver for Missouri nanoscale science, technology and education alliance participants. This is a place for researchers, including students, to ask about regional technical resources and solutions to technical nano-science or nano-education problems, as well as to look for regional project collaborators.
Enthusiastic participation in the MissOuri NanoAlliance meeting on Fri/Sat 14/15 May, 2004 by representatives from industries, institutes, government labs and universities all across the state was much appreciated. Thanks to Bernard Feldman and Keith Stine, here are some notes on the meeting in PDF form for review and comment. Much of the open discussion was not covered in those notes, which focus largely on the individual presentations. That open discussion, among other things, came up with action items for the governor's Research Alliance of Missouri (RAM) to consider at its Tuesday May 18 meeting. These included...
