This is a slightly-edited version of the slides shown on 6 Sept 2005 at the Illinois State University Physics colloquium in Bloomington IL.  We begin with the laboratory study of nanocarbon structures from asymptotic giant branch stellar atmospheres with C>O in the early galaxy, work our way through scales of space and time to present-day silicon logic in a solar system with C<O, ending with a galaxy-wide challenge to present day and future generations.
