As part of a larger collection of activities for developing awareness on multiple scales of time and space, the applet here is designed to help inventory ways that you connect to the niche-networks around. A simpler way to visualize those connnections is sketched at right. Such inventories are one way to help inform meme-expression in metazoan communities to all layers of community structure. Consider this in light of the emerging conclusion that managed gene-expression in eukaryotes is crucial to the development and operation of individual metazoans. As with ideas, with genes an ability to adapt the codes expressed in light of inputs from more than one level of organization seems crucial e.g. to embryo development and to immune response. Bacteria and other prokaryotic microbes are in that sense our genetic ideologues, less able to adapt their song and hence show awareness on multiple levels, but more likely to be "all that's left" when we're confronted with decreasing thermodynamic availability i.e. less free-energy per capita and/or an unfriendly environment.
To check out the methods we're struggling with here, you might begin by correcting the values in the table below. This asks for the percentage of your attention focused toward (or the number of waking hours spent) making things happen on each of six correlation scales during the past week. Then click the "UpDate Values" button above the piechart below. In addition to generating an interesting chart (whose changes might be fun to monitor over the years), this page also calculates your niche-level multiplicity, a quantity that may prove useful to demographic studies downstream. Although we expect yours to be relatively insensitive to the precise values that you input, significant impacts to the value for a community might be expected in times of crisis (e.g. during power outages) or when unemployment increases (independent of GDP).
